Dr. David Patterson grew up in St. Paul, MN. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he completed his undergraduate studies with a major in biology. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. After completing an internship at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI, he went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr. Patterson manages and treats patients with a wide variety of eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic-related eye problems, and functional eyelid abnormalities including droopy eyelids, excess upper eyelid skin, and eyelid lesions.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Patterson is interested in medical device development and is currently developing and patenting a smartphone adapter that allows practitioners to photograph both the front and back of the eye.
Dr. Patterson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has presented at several different ophthalmology meetings and has authored several research papers.
Aside from his medical practice, Dr. Patterson enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children, and also enjoys many outdoor activities including fly-fishing, cycling, and camping.
